    Red face

i called JR once and asked about installing the SC on my B18c motor that has both Type R cams and STR cam gears. They told me to take out the cams and gears and install the factory cams and gears. Then i called another day and someone else there told me that they could probably work.

My question is to anyone who has this setup with the Type R cams and gears, will they work with the SC or not, and i mean will they work correctly without detonation.

My second question is if i will gain any power with the Type R cams over the stock ones ?

I know the gears will probably give me a little more power, but how much ?

also, are there any things to watch out for before the install ? I've researched just about every angle so far, and have gotten alot of info from Lund, Holden, RJaff's and some other guys boards. thanks for your informative boards and the descripitive pages, they have helped out alot so far.

One last question, i can't find a small torque wrench, meaning something smaller than 1 foot long, where can i get one ?

once again, thanks to anybody who answers and i'll give yall an update after the install.

Keep the gears and cams, as long as the str gears are not of they're old design.. the old lame-o aluminium gears will chew threw timing belts like it's nothing.. You will see power gains with both, whoever said to take them off is on crack. There are better choices but if you already have them and aren't looking to go too wild they're fine.

    Bryan,
When did the STR design change? What exactly is different from the old and the new ones?
    1BAD,
I see nothing wrong with using Type-R cams on a forced induction motor SC or Turbo. JR has a SC for the ITR anyway. With proper tuning those cams should be fine. It better, cause I have CTR cams in my GSR and am going turbo. On a NA motor the cams are good for 5-10hp.

I believe that the "R" cams will work just fine... there is more lift and duration in them over the GSR cams, so in theory, all that you need to do is "Dial out" the overlap. I believe that there is 6' more duration in the "R" cams, so seperate the Intake and Exhaust by at least this much and you should be fine. Try tuning your cam gears to +6 Intake, -2 Exhaust to start, and fine tune from there.
A customer of mine in Florida just installed a set of "R" cams with his JRSC, and I had him set his at +4/-2... he says his car hauls azz !!!

Boost numbers may gauge lower... do not be alarmed unless you see a HUGE drop.
    A pound should be OK.

right on the money there bro smile

The reason the pressure drops is because you are allowing more air into the cylinder each power stroke because there is more lift. This in turn drops the pressure. So if you wanted to make more power you would speed the blower back up to where the pressure level use to be and additional power will be made. It will make more power at lower pressure levels which all around is a good thing though wink
